The focus of this event is on the topic of "Targeting Optimal Root Traits" – one of the central but less explored challenges in crop production. Especially under stress conditions, roots are key for plant access to water and nutrients and thus crop yield and stability. They also affect other ecosystem services such as nutrient cycling, soil formation, and water and climate regulation.

The question is how to determine which traits are optimal under which conditions and for which target(s), how to achieve those traits in crops, and how to facilitate their successful adoption.
