  • The group's transportable iGrav superconducting gravimeter has been installed at the Todenfeld observatory and first measurements of time variations of g have been successfully collected (22.11.2022).

  • Bernd Uebbing defended his PhD on "Consistently closing global and regional sea level budgets" (04.11.2022).

  • Prof. Kristine Larson (University of Colorado, Boulder, US) visits the group as Distinguished Professor Emerita from April 2022 to March 2024 (05.04.2022).

  • Christina Strohmenger defended her PhD on "Large-scale mass redistribution in the Earth system from synergistic use of Swarm data". (10.12.2021).

  • DFG decided to establish a new collaborative research centre (SFB1502) at Uni Bonn, with the focus on understanding the role of land use in regional climate change. IGG groups will developing new ways of integrating GRACE/-FO data in coupled ESMs, analyzing radar altimetry, SWOT cal/val, integrating ocean data and models, new deep learing techniques for remote sensing, and developing innovative RDM infrastructure.   • Our retired colleague and former chair of the group, Prof. Karl Heinz Ilk, published a wonderful, modern textbook on physical geodesy, satellite geodesy, reference systems in geodesy (Grundlagen der Physikalischen und Mathematischen Geodäsie, 6 volumes, in German, Springer). (19.11.21).

  • Jointly with the IGG Geoinformation group, a new approach for reconstructing past sea levels from tide gauge records has been developed. The new method utilizes satellite altimetry to determine a minimum-error triangulation of the ocean in a supervised learning phase (28.08.21).

  • New paper on "Reconstructing GRACE-type time-variable gravity from the Swarm satellites" in Scientific Reports by our master student Maja Richter and by Christina Strohmenger (13.01.21).

  • The Universities of Bonn and Cologne and the Forschungszentrum Jülich founded the Center for Earth System Observation and Computational Analysis (CESOC) (01.10.2020).

  • An important aniversary - the predecessor institution of our group, the Institute of Thoretical Geodesy (ITG), had been founded exactly 65 years ago. Read more here. (30.04.2020).

  • The group's new transportable iGrav superconducting gravimeter has been installed at the Walferdange underground laboratory and, after the sphere levitation procedure, the first measurements of time variations of g have been successfully collected (14.02.2020).

  • Dr. Guobin Chang (School of Environment Science and Informatics, China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou China) visits the group as Visiting Researcher from January 2020 to December 2020 (04.02.2020).

  • MSc. Biao Yu (Surveying and Mapping, Southwest Jiaotong university, China) visits the group as Visiting PhD student from December 2019 to December 2020 (04.02.2020).

  • The public version of the TUDaBo SAR-RDSAR Processor is now available via ESA's  G-POD (Grid-Processing On Demand) Service. TUDaBo (Technical University Darmstadt – University Bonn SAR-Reduced SAR) is a web platform that provides the capability to process on line and on demand Cryosat-2 and Sentinel-3A SAR mode Full Bit Rate (FBR or L1A) data to Level-1B and Level-2 geophysical data products.
